-What is Mud Dauber Records? Mud Dauber Records is a cooperative Midwestern record label operating out of Iowa City, in the humble state of Iowa, with a focus on Americana/ Roots music. Some of our artists make their living as performing musicians and some have day jobs (a few might not leave the house much), but regardless, Mud Dauber offers some of the best damn roots music you will ever hear. So we think. At this point in time Mud Dauber recordings are distributed primarily online and in the digital ether. Traditional distribution methods tend to involve a good deal of money leaving musicians' pockets and not necessarily coming back, and the growth of this fine internet has made such models less relevant to indie artists. Our recordings are available online directly as digital downloads via BandCamp, directly from our artists, through CD Baby (one of the coolest and most trustworthy retailers around), through iTunes You'll notice that this website ain't fancy, and neither is Mud Dauber. But we aim to offer really good music and we aim to keep the earnings in the pockets of those folks making the music. That way they can make more. |

-Ok, but what is a Mud Dauber? According to WordNet, a mud dauber is defined as a "wasp that constructs mud cells on a solid base in which females place eggs laid in paralyzed insect larvae". Nasty. You get the idea though... don't mess with 'em. |

-Does Mud Dauber Records accept submissions? Oh jeez, no. No way. We're uptight about who becomes part of the Mud Dauber family, and that means that we get to be choosy, persnickety little bastards and do the looking ourselves. Plus, everyone hates being rejected, and everyone also hates being the bad guy or gal who does the rejecting, so let's just avoid that whole issue. |
